Gift to the World: The Contribution of Catholic Universities to the true Development of the Human Person and of Society

Zenon Grocholewski

Abstract

Learning and education are dynamic processes aimed at developing people’s capabilities and areas of expertise. This is especially the case with higher education, particularly the university with its long and fruitful tradition. In the context of Catholic Universities, the notion of “mission” has a long and rich tradition, as well as a broader meaning than in the common “mission statements” of other institutions of higher education. It has to do with faith, with the proclamation of the Gospel and a consequent aiming towards the transcendent and the supernatural. This paper focuses on the contribution of Catholic universities to the true development of the human person of society.
