Thomas Aquinas and Education: Imagination at the Service of Reason

Vivian Boland

Abstract

For Thomas Aquinas imagination serves learning and teaching. We see it in how Jesus taught; he who is, for Aquinas, the greatest of all teachers. Moral aspects of learning and teaching are briefly considered before a final section argues that the transcendental properties of truth, goodness, beauty and integrity serve to structure learning and teaching as well as the curriculum with which they are engaged.
