Interreligious Dialogue between Christianity and Buddhism in China and Taiwan: On the Way towards Mutual Appreciation – A Christian Perspective

Zbigniew Wesołowski

Abstract

Tracing the historical antagonism between Christianity and Buddhism in China, this article calls for a dialogue of existential spirituality in the future. The article provides an in-depth study of two incidents in the life of Matteo Ricci but also looks forward to new principles of dialogue. Although emphasizing relations between Catholics and Buddhists, the article does not neglect key Protestant writers who have contributed to greater mutual understanding between Christians and Buddhists.
